High-Quality Fine-Mesh Strainer In the two smallest sizes, this high-quality stainless steel strainer has a very fine mesh that will strain out seeds, lumps, and just about everything else from a thin cooking liquid. To strain a cooking liquid that is even slightly thickened, you will probably need a strainer with a coarser mesh. The strainer is dishwasher safe.The strainer size (2-1/2″, etc.) is measured straight across the “bowl” of the strainer, and includes some of the metal frame. The total length of the 2-1/2″ strainer is 7-1/4″; the wire handle alone is 4″. The total length of the 3-3/4″ strainer is 8-3/4″; the wire handle alone is 4-1/4″.
Good large-mesh strainer This is a good large-mesh strainer (6″ diameter). I use it for rinsing rice, quinoa, berries, etc. The mesh would be too large for straining lumps from custard/sauces; I prefer my OXO strainers for that job.It’s kind of flimsy & the wire handle is not comfortable to use but it serves its purpose in getting water off quickly. The mesh is a good quality stainless so should hold up over time. It goes through the dishwasher with no problems.Update 2/11/2013: Still use this once or twice/week & it is still in like-new condition. The mesh has held up well; no separation from the metal bar & no splitting of the mesh.
