Designed by architect Michael Graves in 1985, this kettle is the first of a group of products designed in the 80’s and 90’s by the architect. This was the first group of products by an American designer to be included in the Alessi catalog. It opened the way for the playful design style that subsequently characterized the 90’s, and thanks to an inspired mix of post-modern and pop idioms, it has become one of the internationally recognized icons of the 80’s. Still the best seller since its introduction, the kettle is actually the product that has sold the greatest number of units in the history of the company. Body is in 18/10 stainless steel with handle and whistling bird in PA. Both whistling bird and lid can be replaced.

Way overpriced It boils water. It looks pretty on the counter. It has maintained its luster. You can get your hand inside it to clean.

Kepela "kepela" says:

beautiful and unique You know it when you see it, there is no other like it. I use mine daily and have for more than 15 years. I’ve replaced the bird once, though I did buy several extras. The first one broke after only a few months, but the replacement has been in use for the balance of the 15 years. The shinny finish is all scratched from cleaning and the bottom needs a really good scrubbing around the edges occasionally. There is some mildew build up in the rim on the bottom. I wish I’d taken better care…

CO Cooker says:

Melted Whistle This is a beautiful kettle. I had owned the original for years and eventually, a year ago, bought this new “Special Edition” black one. Tonight, while boiling water for tea, the inside of the black whistle actually melted into the spout. Even if I could replace the melted whistle, the inside kettle spout is coated in now-hardened black plastic. This is a terrible design flaw and of course it seems impossible to contact anyone at Alessi in order to get a replacement.
